Cali's passion for dogs is truly inspiring. It all started during her time volunteering at the Humane Society of the Desert. What began as a mission to walk shelter dogs and rescue abandoned dogs in the desert has grown into a dedicated rescue organization. With unwavering commitment, she has rescued hundreds of dogs, ensuring they find loving homes and brighter futures. Her incredible journey showcases the impact one person can make in the lives of countless animals.
Sean
Director & Fundraising Coordinator
Seeing firsthand the abuse and neglect of so many of our pets in the Coachella Valley, Sean knew that, in some way, he had to get involved to be part of the solution. That's when Sean learned about Rescue Lyfe and the amazing pet rescues they perform daily in our communities with minimal resources. Sean is truly honored to be part of such a courageous and dedicated volunteer rescue team helping save our defenseless best friends who desperately need our help!!
Marla

Marla is an author, graphic designer, former actress, and Integrative Nutritional Health Coach who has always had a deep love for animals. Heartbroken by the growing number of vulnerable, mistreated, and abandoned dogs in the Coachella Valley, she felt compelled to take action. Her journey into animal rescue began with a life-changing moment: when Cali came to help her, Sean, and some others save a dog abandoned in the desert. This life-changing experience solidified her commitment to supporting Cali’s rescue efforts and advocating for these beautiful, deserving pups.
Shelly
Director, Senior Volunteer &
Paws in the Sand Lead
Shelly joked that her bio should begin with her former life as a supermodel and she gave it all up because she got tired of the money and fame, but in truth, she is a former lawyer and schoolteacher who now dedicates her heart and time to Rescue Lyfe. Shelly is the kind of volunteer who quietly shows up wherever she’s needed. She transports dogs to safety, fosters when there’s nowhere else to turn, searches tirelessly for affordable spay and neuter care, and leads our Paws in the Sand initiative with compassion and resolve. With her quick wit, steady presence, and deep empathy, Shelly brings both laughter and hope into some of rescue’s hardest moments. She is an irreplaceable part of the Rescue Lyfe family, and we are profoundly grateful for all that she gives.
Jessica
Director, Networking & Fundraising
Jessica is an artist and organic farmer with over 40 years of experience, splitting her time between Canada during the growing season and La Quinta, California in the winter. Her love for animals started young—she was always the one bringing home injured animals, hoping to nurse them back to health. That instinct to care never faded. Jessica began rescuing dogs in La Quinta years ago and has since become a passionate advocate for transforming high-kill shelters into no-kill facilities throughout Riverside County. Her dedication to animal welfare eventually led her to Rescue Lyfe, where she’s honored to be part of a mission-driven team working to make a difference. For Jessica, rescue is not just a cause—it’s a calling.
Maude (Mode)
Director, Fundraising & Event Coordinator
Maude “Mode” brings energy, compassion, and a true get-it-done spirit to Rescue Lyfe. Whether transporting dogs, helping with fundraising and events, engaging with the community, or simply stepping in wherever she’s needed, Mode never waits to be asked—she sees what needs to be done and does it.
A longtime Coachella Valley resident and devoted dog lover, Mode first connected with Rescue Lyfe at our 2025 Golf Tournament while searching for a meaningful new chapter.
She came looking for a new purpose. She found it.
Macaria
Foster and Adoption Coordinator
Macaria is a retired stay-at-home wife with a passion for animals. With a heart full of compassion, she has dedicated her time to helping dogs in need, networking and finding homes for shelter dogs. Her commitment to these furry friends shines through in every effort she makes, bringing joy and hope to their lives. Through her work, Macaria embodies the spirit of kindness and community, making a meaningful difference in the lives of many dogs.
